Letter 3
To Mrs. Saville, England. July seventh, seventeen - . Hey, Sis, Just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you know I’ll be okay - and I've made really good progress on my journey. This letter will get to England on a merchant ship heading home from Archangel.
They’re luckier than me, I guess, since I might not see our home for years. But honestly, I’m feeling pretty good: my crew is brave and seems really committed. Even with all the icebergs floating past, showing how dangerous things are where we’re going, they aren't freaked out.
We’re already way up north, but it's summer, so it's not freezing. The winds from the south are pushing us towards those shores I'm dying to reach, and they're surprisingly warm - more than I thought. Nothing crazy has happened so far.
A couple of strong winds and a small leak are just normal stuff for experienced sailors. I’m good if that’s all we deal with on this trip. Talk soon, my dear Margaret. Don’t worry, I’m not going to take unnecessary risks - for my sake and yours. I’ll be calm, steady, and careful.
But I’m gonna nail this. Why not? I’ve come this far, blazing a safe trail across the open sea, with the stars themselves watching and cheering me on. Why stop now? What could possibly hold back a determined heart and a strong will? My heart’s just bursting with excitement, so I’m rambling a bit.
Gotta wrap this up. Sending you all my love, Sis! R.W.
